She graduated with Master of Laws with distinction in 2009, and PhD in May 2017, from<br \/>\nVictoria University of Wellington.<\/p>\n<p>Ruiping\u2019s doctoral thesis examined the effects of legal systems on colonisation and indigenous land tenure through comparing the Qing and the Japanese colonisation of Taiwan. The project formed part of a wider inquiry on land tenure changes in the Pacific Rim in the 19 th century, led by Professor Richard Boast at Victoria University of Wellington and funded by the Royal Society of New Zealand Marsden Fund. ( For more:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.victoria.ac.nz\/law\/research\/our-research\/the-boast-marsden-project\">The Boast Marsden Project<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>Ruiping is qualified to practise law in both New Zealand and China.<\/p>\n<h2>Presentation at 2017 New and Emerging Scholars Symposium<\/h2>\n<p>Ruiping\u2019s presentation for the Symposium,&nbsp;<strong>\u201cQing Colonisation of Taiwan \u2013 Understanding China\u2019s Present from the Past\u201d<\/strong>, examines the Qing government\u2019s laws and policies regarding the aboriginal territories and aboriginal land in Taiwan, and discusses the continuing influences of the Chinese legal tradition on the contemporary Chinese legal framework, despite the modernisation of legal institutions in China.<\/p>\n<h2>Ongoing Research Interests<\/h2>\n<p>Ruiping continues to research in the areas of the Chinese legal system, comparative law and land law.
