Generative AI estimated to save professionals 200 hours per year

As generative AI (genAI) continues to revolutionise and shape the world of work, Thomson Reuters has released the global edition of the Future of Professionals Report.

The latest survey quizzed professionals worldwide on the impact of generative AI, how AI tools fit in with workflows, and AI governance considerations.

AI is a ‘force for good’

Positive sentiment surrounding AI continues to expand. Our survey found that 78% of professionals believe AI is a “force for good” in their profession.

Professional grade AI assistants are becoming more widely accepted in the workplace. However, the integration of genAI tools and systems into work processes means employers need to invest in AI literacy and ongoing education on use cases.

The benefits of embedded genAI in work processes can apply to a wide range of industries. About 77% of professionals surveyed have a positive outlook on genAI as the tools and systems are designed to alleviate the burden of manual day-to-day work.

Professionals no longer need to speculate on the potential for AI, according to Steve Hasker President and CEO, Thomson Reuters.

“There’s been considerable discussion in recent years about how generative artificial intelligence (genAl) could affect the careers of professionals.”

“They are now witnessing its effects firsthand,” said Steve.

“Many professionals are actually using the technology; they have a better sense of how it will impact their lives.”

GenAI to save hundreds of hours

The Future of Professionals report found the productive gains from optimising work with a genAI assistant can equate to an estimated 200 hours of manual work saved per professional.

“With rapid adoption underway and professionals finding a variety of practical use cases for Al, we’re embarking on an exciting era for these industries – and for the economy more broadly,” Steve added.

Professionals we surveyed revealed that ‘critical time savings’ is one of the highest priorities. This common thread from our research indicates that administrative tasks are a universal roadblock to higher level work.

The scope of the research included 2,200 professionals and C-level corporate executives from 50 countries. What stands out from the research is the need and desire that professionals have to unlock time.
